Investigating Flotec’s Core Values. Part Two: Belonging, Empowerment, Ownership and Accountability.
Founded in 1995 and having recently become an employee-owned trust, Loughborough-based Flotec is a leading supplier of hydraulic, pneumatic and pipeline products.

Flotec provides its products and services to a wide range of industries including rail, automotive, agriculture, pharmaceutical, power, plant, waste, and general manufacturing.
This series will delve deeper into each of the Flotec core values, how they define the businesses strategy and its ongoing trajectory.
The Second Flotec Core Value: Belonging, Empowerment, Ownership and Accountability.
Statement One:
“To be a culture of diversity, inclusivity, creativity, innovation, teamwork, and family.”
Flotec further bolsters its commitment to belonging, empowerment, ownership, and accountability with the following three statements:
For each person to feel valued, appreciated and belonging to the Flotec culture, its shared mission, and values.
Each person to feel empowered and take ownership and accountability of their work.
To acknowledge, celebrate and reward successes and achievements.

To understand Flotec’s commitment to belonging, ownership and accountability, a good starting point is its move towards becoming employee owned.
Flotec officially published the news about becoming an Employee-Owner Trust (EOT) in May 2021.
At the time, Julian Davies, Managing Director for Flotec, explained the driving force behind shifting towards employee ownership: “The purpose of becoming an employee-owned organisation is really to recognise the team for their hard work and commitment.
The success of Flotec Industrial Limited is due to the skills, input and endeavours of its employees whereby becoming an EOT company, makes a great deal of sense.
I believe that becoming employee owned will empower accountability, inclusivity and encourage innovation and productivity.”
From this perspective, we can begin to understand the ethos behind building a culture and devising a core value focussed upon belonging, empowerment, ownership, and accountability.

Page four of the Flotec Corporate Social Responsibility - Duty of Care publication demonstrates a commitment to its people, with the following statement:
“Flotec is committed to providing a culture of diversity, inclusion, creativity, innovation, teamwork, and family.
Every member of the Flotec team understands that having a thorough appreciation of and empathy towards equality and respect for diversity and inclusion creates a much more productive organisation where creativity and innovation will thrive.
As a democratic organisation where every voice has valued input, Flotec is focussed upon creating an environment where every employee is treated fairly, with respect and dignity, which in turn generates a high calibre and quality of work.”
When reading about members of the Flotec team becoming St John Ambulance trained Mental Health Workplace Responders, another becoming officially qualified in Equality Diversity and Inclusion and the company signing the Railway Industry Association’s EDI Charter, you realise that Flotec genuinely understands the need for equality, diversity, and inclusion.
In October 2023, Flotec featured on page 26 of the Railway Industry Association’s second EDI Annual Charter Report.
With so much evidence suggesting that a diverse and inclusive company structure creates a more innovative, creative, productive, and high performing work force, the future looks bright for Flotec Industrial Limited.
