PROVIDING THE RAIL INDUSTRY WITH RELIABLE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS
Updated: Apr 25, 2019
Established in 1995, Flotec Industrial Limited provide a range of services and products to the rail industry for the maintenance and overhaul of fleets of traction and rolling stock. Our key focus is delivering cost savings and long-term engineering solutions.
Our expertise means we can find the perfect hydraulic solution to your application. Almost all of your maintenance, repair and overhaul needs can be met through Flotec.
Our core business is hose and connector solutions, which can be supplied individually or as bespoke assembly packages, but we are established in:
• Reduction of fleet operating costs.
• Improving and monitoring fleet reliability.
• Supplying reliable engineering support to Rolling Stock, Leasing Companies, Train Operating Companies, and Track Plant Machinery Operators.
• Project management in condition assessments.
In 2016, Flotec were shortlisted in the UK Rail Industry Awards for Product and Service Innovation and in 2019, we were shortlisted in the Innovation of the Year category for The Midlands Business Awards 2019.
Coolant System Enhancements
By using the Bluestripe EPDM coolant hose and the PowerGrip clamp, this pioneering product combination has been proven to completely eliminate leaking hoses on rolling stock and significantly reduce downtime.
With the support of both Angel Trains and Porterbrook, Flotec have been fitting the PowerGrip and Bluestripe coolant hose solution on rolling stock across the country for a long time.
We have worked with a number of TOC’s, including Arriva Trains Wales, West Midlands Trains, Northern Rail, Scotrail, and Great Western Railway and since each trial fitment, the use of the PowerGrip Clamps and Blue Stripe Hose have:
• Eliminated leaking hoses.
• Significantly saved on cost.
• Reduced downtime.
• Offered a “fit and forget” solution.
The solution has removed the long-standing problem of coolant hose leaks, with fleet fit imminent on a number of Train Operating Companies. We have upgraded the following classes:
150/1 | 150/2 | 153 | 156 | 165 | 166 | 170
Hydrostatic Hose Optimisation
As poor routing and support is another factor that frequently leads to premature hose failure, Flotec also offer a Hydrostatic Hose Optimisation Solution. Working in collaboration with customer engineers to understand existing installation history, we provide expert advice on ways to improve routing, create bespoke hose assemblies to customer requirements and complete the installation from start to finish.
The products that we mainly use to upgrade these applications include the MegaCrimp C-insert Coupling, which is the only leak-free coupling on the market, and the MED-HT hose, which is a revolutionary, EN 45545-2 fire approved hose.
Flotec’s recommendations are incorporated into C4 maintenance programmes. On all future C4 exam works, the Flotec product is fitted with confidence and is warranted for exam cycles.
Flotec Industrial Limited are approved to ISO 9001:2015 and successfully audited to GMRT 2450 safety critical standard. We strive to ensure best quality products and services are available, competitively priced, and delivered with the highest customer service levels.
Customer Comments and Feedback:
“Many thanks for this prompt reaction to turnaround the kits. Wish all our suppliers would provide the same service.”
“I just wanted to pass on my thanks to Sam and yourself for so quickly turning around the fuel hoses we needed last week for 170521. Thanks to you we got the unit out on time and with the new fuel metering equipment working, the hoses were spot on!”
“The purpose of my email was to say thank you for helping us out at short notice last week with the manufacture and supply of fuel hoses for one of units at Cambridge last week. Your assistance was invaluable and meant that we were able to return the unit to service on time. Thanks again.”
“After demonstrating their capabilities through the extremely successful Turbostar hydrostatic hose optimisation, Porterbrook enlisted Flotec’s engineering services in addressing the hydrostatic system leaks on our Class 158 units. The system leaks from the present hose and seal interfaces were causing notable reliability issues and a high-quality solution was required. Working very closely with ASR and Porterbrook, Flotec produced an optimisation process and framework in developing and ultimately implementing a successful resolution - this addressed areas such as evaluation of current installation, customer feedback and intelligence on developing solution, vehicle surveys for measurement/routing/security and trial fitting of the specified kit.
All through the process, Flotec worked tirelessly to promptly develop the required solution, encompassing the proven Gates hose and Floring seal technology with the routing with clipping and bracketry solutions providing the high-level medium for optimum performance. The level of engineering, product and after sales support was excellent throughout the development, trial and fleet fit installation phases, responding quickly to customer needs and going the extra mile to deliver satisfaction. Flotec’s service included specifying and cataloguing a comprehensive toolkit for the full installation and supporting the customer in compiling a full installation instruction, whilst providing a full warranty on the kit material for the duration of the Heavy Maintenance interventions where it was installed. Porterbrook were delighted at the developed Flotec solution in meeting both our and ASR’s pressing requirement and would have no hesitation in recommending them as a high quality and customer focused supplier.”
Flotec Industrial Limited will be on Stand D66 at Railtex 2019, make sure to come and say hello.
